I would like to see if this gets tried as a hate crime. In San Angelo, Texas hate crime legislation was applauded until the first people were charged with it. It was two black women who assaulted a white woman who was dating a black man. This did not go over very well in the black community who felt they should have been immune from such things.
This article strikes home in a way since I am dating a Beyonce/Halle Barry type Black woman. She is an MD and her twin sister is a lawyer. Niether one of them dated black men (the lawyer is married to a white guy).
I'm sure I may get some negative responses from any black females here at FR, but I have noticed that black women get mightily p.o.'d if an attractive, successful black man chooses to date a white woman.
I live in the South and personally, I don't have a problem seeing interracial couples together if they look to be over 25. When they are that age, I believe they have the maturity to know who they really want to date and to know how to handle the negative situations that may arise from friends or family members (or ignorant people).
Most of the time, however, in the malls here the interracial couples fit the following profile.
Overweight, pale, bleached blonde female (age 15-18) with piercings and jewelry dangling from every appendage seen with a gangsta "Snoop Dog" wanna-be, dread locks, wearing 15 gold chains and jeans so baggy the crotch hangs to his knees and shows ALL of his underwear. The female is always looking around to see who is looking at her.
The article says that they are also being charged with civil rights violations. I'm not sure if that translates into a hate crime or not.
