Votes Vs. Exit polls (Al-Jazeerah Cries Foul)
Al-Jazeerah ^ | November 7, 2004 | Tom Trottier

Posted on 12/10/2004 12:38:05 AM PST by RWR8189

Why did the exit polls show Kerry winning the election, but the vote showed Bush winning?

The apologia by the exit poll system architects reported in the New York Times Nov 5 sounds like post-facto reasoning which assumed that the vote is correct, and therefore the exit polls must be wrong. In its own words, it then "theorized" reasons why the exit poll could have been wrong.

Why did these problems occur now and not in previous elections? Didn't the poll architects plan for them? The wrong-exit-poll theories should be tested. At the polls where the reasons occurred, how are the results different from the vote at those polls? If those results are thrown out, do the remaining results still show a difference between the exit poll and the vote, at that polling station?

'"The last wave of national exit polls we received, along with many other subscribers, showed Kerry winning the popular vote by 51 percent to 48 percent, if true, surely enough to carry the Electoral College,'' Steve Coll, managing editor of The Washington Post, wrote in an online chat with readers Wednesday.' Assuming that the "last" exit poll covered the last voters, then the last exit poll should have been very accurate if there were sufficient numbers.

It's very scary to think that George Bush & co created or suppressed 4,000,000 or more American votes. It implies widespread conspiracy, and also implies that many other close races have been fraudulently won by Republicans. Is it a coincidence that Walden O'Dell, CEO of Diebold, the maker of electronic voting machines, told Republicans in a recent fund-raising letter that he is "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year."

It cannot be assumed that the vote is correct and the exit polls flawed when the leadership of the US and the world is at stake.

This has to be investigated in a non-partisan manner.

"Why did the exit polls show Kerry winning the election, but the vote showed Bush winning?"

Oh, I dunno, maybe it has something to do with how the election is won by votes, not by polls which are taken by Kerry supporters bussed out to the sites where the exit pollers are?

Because the exit polls were sauced??? Remember over sampling women???

Amazing.

A former CBS hack sauces the exit polls and do we have the press calling for his head? No. We have the press claiming the exit polls, even with biased samples, are more accurate then the vote tabulations.

UFB.

Exit polls are taken in urban areas with large populations... for the most part.
For the most part, these areas vote Democratic.
This election was won in the boondocks. There were no exit pollers there.

The polsters don't want to admit that perhaps some folks lied.....the way some folks will walk out of a movie theater in which a hit movie was playing and say"don't see this picture...it sucks...then giggle and wink at you!"

The November 2nd, suppress the W vote, exit poll surprise was slick orchestration by The Democratic Crime Syndicate. The violin section is still playing the "Requiem for the DUmmies".

The exit polls consisted of made up numbers supplied by Kerry's camp. Even an idiot can figure out the motive...except Al Jazeera, evidently.

This is so funny; a "news source" from countries that don't allow democratic voting questioning how our votes are tallied.

The wrong-exit-poll theories should be tested.

I'd love to hear how they suggest we do that.

This article continues the urban myth that the exit polls in 2004 indicated that Kerry would win.

First, the "raw totals" over-represented certain demographic groups, and was unrepresentative of the electorate. When properly weighted, the nationwide exit poll showed Bush to be the winner, albeit by a smaller margin than his actual nationwide margin of victory in the popular vote.

Second, the exit polls in two key states, Ohio and Florida, showed Kerry to be ahead but by less than their margin of error. No call of those states was warranted on the basis of these exit polls.

Third, the exit poll in Florida was off by more than twice its margin of error, since Bush easily won that state. However, when you conduct 50 simultaneous state polls, you have to expect that several of them will be off.

Fourth, the average of all the public polls, both nationwide and state-by-state, pointed to a Bush victory, by narrow margins in the popular vote and in the electoral college, which is exactly what happened.
