Dems back Annan.

Some House Democrats are now publicly backing Annan to complete his term as UN Secretary General. It is not much of a surprise that the loudest voices come from the likes of Dennis Kucinich. During the democratic primaries, Kucinich successfully cast himself as a far left, out of touch, politician. Here is a report on his Annan statements.

Fundamentally what is with the Democrats and their support for an obviously corrupt and disturbed leadership at the UN? As we have noted here before, the UN workers have voted for a no-confidence measure, aimed at the top brass of the UN. Sexual harassment, corruption and favoritism are among the most serious charges. Although none of these allegations are specifically levied at Annan, this happened under his watch. It is a fine example of the organization he runs.

Back to the issue at hand. Why do the Democrats like Annan? Most likely it is because Annan does not agree with Bush and has called the Iraq War illegal. That sounds like it came right out of the liberal playbook. Of course, this is false since a number of UN resolutions warned of grave consequences for non compliance by Hussein.

Annan has somehow become the icon of objection to the war and the Coalition. Although Blair has recently praised the Secretary for his work, I am not sure that he will continue to do so once the oil-for-food scandal investigation becomes public. The move by Blair could very well be designed to appease some of the more liberal forces at home. Also note that President Bush has not spoken publicly about the matter, simply because it is premature. Of course, it is no secret that Bush would like to see Annan leave his post.

Not receiving any publicity is the DLC's call for Annan to resign.

Annan's intransigence should not deter the Senate subcommittee on investigations or other congressional investigations. Volcker can hardly be expected to conduct a thorough and unbiased inquiry into a scandal in which the U.N. secretary general and his son are involved. The world deserves a full and thorough accounting of what transpired. The sooner the United Nations can get past this matter, the sooner it can get back to the important business of making itself an effective instrument for collective security against terrorism, failed states, and acts of genocide, a goal that Annan has strongly supported. The secretary general should place this critical mission ahead of his personal interests, and step aside. Given his own lack of credibility on the oil-for-food program, this step is the price Annan must pay to help restore the U.N.'s credibility, and to salvage his legacy as secretary general.

I don't think there has ever been a time in America that the agenda of the socialist/dems has been so much in the open. So much so that that even many republicans have become inurred to it and give their silent consent.

This country is hurting and in big trouble -- even if we didn't have terrorism to contend with. Time to re-instate HUAC.

Let's refine and upgrade the product we're trying to sell to the middle east and elsewhere around the globe.
