It is a parents worst nightmare. That's why I have a 45 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback, soon to be an 80 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback that sleeps in my daughters room.

A co-worker who lives in Palo Alto has one. He is an absolutely beautiful dog.

Downside? His breeding didnt' kick in. You may remember about 8 months ago a mountain lion wandered into a residential neighborhood in Palo Alto. It was eventually shot by a deputy. That was a half block from our friends home. Kimba, the lion dog, slept through it.

I'm sure you'll have better luck with yours as a guard dog. A good dog or a shotgun would have been much more effective on this scumbag than a 2x4.

But it wasn't until just after noon when a Labrador retriever chased the cat down Walter Hayes that police closed in on it.

Took a Lab to get the job done!

"I'll chase any cats that aren't MY cats . . . "

Interestingly enough, my Lab makes a pretty good watchdog. If she hears any noises in the yard she goes on alert, and if somebody tries the door or rings the bell she sounds like a VERY dangerous dog - a big growl that comes all the way from her belly and thunderous deep barks (completely different from the high-pitched bark she has when she's after a squirrel.)

Of course, once the door opens the only thing she's likely to do to you is get your face all wet jumping up and licking you . . . but she sounds very convincing.
