CONDIT DUNNE IN
New York Post ^ | 12/09/04 | CARL CAMPANILE

Former California Rep. Gary Condit must answer embarrassing questions about his sex life with Chandra Levy and other women as part of his defamation suit against crime author Dominick Dunne, a federal judge ruled yesterday.

Manhattan District Judge Peter Leisure also said Condit must disclose information about his personal finances as part of the discovery in the suit.

Leisure said Condit couldn't have it both ways — sue Dunne and then prevent the defendants from cross-examining thoroughly for facts.

"Unfortunately for plaintiff, he opened that door himself by filing this lawsuit," Leisure said. "The court cannot allow plaintiffs to walk through freely while holding defendant in check at the gate."

Leisure said Dunne's right to a fair trial outweighed Condit's right to privacy.

"Defendant Dunne did not ask to be sued, and plaintiff Condit should not be allowed to use the court system as both a sword and a shield," Leisure said.

[snip]

Dunne did not say Condit killed Levy or is a main suspect, and even surmised that Condit "does not know" what happened to her.

But based on hearsay from a "horse whisperer" source, Dunne told Ingraham that Condit may have "created the environment that led to her disappearance."

BTW -- FReepers in his district -- got any plans?

Nope! He's gone - from Congress, and from the district. He packed up and moved to Arizona.

I know. Actually, I was wondering if any FReepers in his district had plans to run.

That's probably exactly why Bill Clinton never sued any of the women for their claims he raped them.

You may be right. The one and only time someone in the White House press corp (Sam Donaldson, Lor' bless 'im) summoned the courage to ask him about it, he answered that they'd have to talk to his lawyer.

Yes, he brought in Mark Fuhrman. What ever happened to him. He is fascinating to listen to but I haven't seen him for quite a while.
