Actually she has an acute legal mind, a wide grasp of American history, and she usually writes beautifully.

If you look at most of her columns, she does NOT usually descend to the liberal tricks of ad hominem argument, name-calling, swearing, or shouting. It's just that when she goes after them, she nails them good. What's wrong with that?

Mark Steyn writes even better and has an even more encyclopedic mind, but there's only one Mark Steyn. Compared to most of liberal writers, Ann is a real pro. It's just that she breaks the rule that only leftists are aloud to attack their opponents. Conservatives are supposed to be low-key and polite. No thanks.

I've been of two minds about Coulter. Occasionally she displays a mean streak that irritates me. But her rapier wit can also puncture leftist pomposities with stunning virtuosity.

Lately she's out of the doghouse with me and on my good side. It all started when I saw a report that they tried to corner her about "homophobia" on Barbara Walters' The View by asking her if she'd ever even seen lesbians relate to each other. In less than half a heartbeart Coulter replied, "Sure, I watched Katy Couric interview Hillary Clinton just yesterday." That knocked me out.

Since then she's written some well argued columns and just generally displayed more brilliance and less meanness, at least to my ear. She's much more effective that way, IMHO.
