As President Bush rounds the bend and heads into his second term, perhaps you're looking for a new motto to describe his presidency.
Try this one: Livin' Large with George W. Bush.
Amid the campaign-year debate over the merits and flaws of the U.S.'s 43rd president, perhaps the least discussed of his attributes is his most important. He is a gambler, and plays for high stakes. For better or for worse, don't look for that to change, because his history suggests the characteristic is embedded in his personality.
"The guy does not think small," says Nicholas Calio, who handled relations with the U.S. Congress for the Bush White House for much of the first term. "This is part and parcel of his personality and his world view. ... The smart money is on him moving out fast and moving out big."
In practical terms, Mr. Bush has sketched out three giant projects for his second term: begin to privatize the Social Security system, overhaul the tax code to make it simpler and more efficient, and change the Middle East by forcing democracy into the heart of the region. Oh, and he'd like to put legal limits on lawsuits along the way. All this, of course, while taming a raging insurgency and holding an election in Iraq.
The betting already has begun on where Mr. Bush will have to cut back his ambitions, and how fast he'll be forced to do so. Don't count on it. Mr. Bush may fail, but failure is more likely than retreat.

Has the Journal forgotten 11 million "temporary worker visas"?
"Do ya fell lucky today? Punk!"
Yeah, he just bet $20 Million

Who cares about this crap? People that have to nit pick at this President really do a disservice to his greatness and his place in history. He doesn't care about "temporary worker visas", I don't care about "temporary worker visas", the congress doesn't care about "temporary worker visas" and the majority of the American people (thank God) don't care about "temporary worker visas".
Yeah, he just bet $20 Million (on our enemies)

I for one of many, am TOTALLY TIRED of our government's pandering to its Islamic enemies. This sucks -- Bush should not be giving a cent to the Palestinians, especially when you review history and see how much money has been GIVEN to Arafat over the decades...for which we had ZERO RETURN ON OUR INVESTMENT.
The American taxpayer continues to be screwed by its own government, which is NOT ACCOUNTABLE for the money it TAKES from us.
My son, that $20 million investment now gives us card blanche to do what we want in terms of the Palestinian conflict. Be less narrow minded. It's a good investment.
His larger than life character is 'played down' by his personal style. The President is not flashy or overbearing in any way. He has none of the 'look at me' or 'it's all about me' style that IS the Clinton character. This President has never once confused himself with his office or with events. I get the feeling that the President is proud to see himself as a public servant, albeit THE PRINCIPAL public servant of this country. He can have no higher calling and his pride in that role is barely concealed. America is proud of him and his aversion to smallness, we were ready for and certainly deserve the personal dignity and sincere humility Bush brings to the Presidency. Maybe that's what makes him such a larger than life individual. Gambling for small stakes is not in his nature. He may not see the trees but will never mistake the forest for anything but a forest.
Several polls show more than 50 percent are opposed to guest worker visas.

There's not more than 75 members of congress that are willing to address this issue. That's the best poll, and it shows this is a loser of an issue.
It's a good investment.

Overall, it has been a very poor investment, and when it comes to any country that lives by, and supports terrorism, even one dollar in political money is a bad investment.
You share a very naive view of the world and life in general.
Sounds like Jorge Bush standing in a gleaming tower at the border wearing a rhinstone suit throwing $100 bills at illegals as they stream into America.
What he said!
You share a very naive view of the world and life in general.

Naive -- hardly. Realistic -- yes.
I said it before and I'll say it again. Don't play poke with Dubya and expect to win.
Exactly.
Have you heard. Arafat is dead. (really)
This is a whole new ballgame in the middle east. That includes Palestine (wherever that is)
This is a whole new ballgame in the middle east. That includes Palestine (wherever that is)....

Maybe it is, and maybe it is not. I have little faith that Palestine, a puppet state of Arab anti-Israeli terror, is willing to tell their benefactor (the Arab world) that they no longer are anti-Israeli and want to stop killing Jews --- REGARDLESS OF WHO IS RUNNING PALESTINE. There is alot more to that situation, than JUST ARAFAT. For many decades, he was a willing stooge for the Arabs...that is how he got his money...that and nations foolish enough to give him money which he stole and bought explosives and weapons with.
Sorry, I am not optimistic about Palestine. Until they have a leader and the people reject the anti-Israeli scenario, THERE WILL NEVER BE PEACE.
