Weve been in there for 21 months - heavy insurgent activity for at least 16 of those - and we're just getting a clue where its coming from?
Josef Bodansky has written a book, published in August 2003, entitled "The Secret Iraq War" that accuses both Iran and Syria of providing insurgents and weapons to destabalize Iraq.
Our intelligence services are woefully weak and inept. The shakeup is long overdue - but it will be a long time before they are operating with the required level of performance.
You're assuming that the intell services haven't been reporting this all along. I suspect they have, but the decision makers have been, if not exactly ignoring it, putting it on the back burner until the time is right. Like after the US and Iraqi elections.
I think our government knew.
This seems to be a calculated release of information.
