House Approves U.S. Intelligence Overhaul [336-75]
AP ^ | December 7, 2004 | JESSE J. HOLLAND

Posted on 12/07/2004 4:49:31 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

The House voted Tuesday to overhaul a national intelligence network that failed to prevent the Sept. 11 attacks, combining under one official control of 15 spy agencies, intensifying aviation and border security and allowing more wiretaps of suspected terrorists.

"We have come a long way toward taking steps that will ensure that we do not see another September 11th," said House Rules chairman David Dreier, R-Calif. Now "we have in place a structure that will ensure that we have the intelligence capability to deal with conflicts on the ground wherever they exist."

The House voted 336-75 to send the Senate legislation to create a new national intelligence director, establish a counterterrorism center, set priorities for intelligence gathering and tighten U.S. borders. The measure would implement the biggest change to U.S. intelligence gathering and analysis since the creation of the CIA after World War II to deal with the newly emerging Cold War.

The new structure should help the nation's 15 intelligence agencies work together to protect the country from attacks like the ones that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, lawmakers said.

"I have always said that good people need better tools. Here come the tools to help good people succeed," said Rep. Jane Harman of California, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.

The GOP-controlled Senate plans to pass the bill Wednesday and send it to President Bush for his signature.

If the National-Socialist ID System sections are in the bill the House passed, it's more like the Nazis or the Communists actually won the Congress.

We already have a federalized national ID - It is called your social security # -

Only 75 House members had the brains and guts enough to oppose this crap?

Only safe members could withstand lying 2006 campaign ads featuring the 9/11 Millionaire Widows and Dingbats. These scumbags made me sick the past few days. How dare they attack James Sensenbrenner for his patriotism in trying to keep future Mohammed Attas from getting drivers licenses. Blood will be on their hands when an American city burns again. I am so sick of these stupid families. Who the hell crowned them as America's intelligence experts?

are pumping big money into key Senatorial Political Action Committee's....

The Senate refused to accept Sensebrenners provision....

I don't think it is the President.....

Senators I heard mentioned in a TV interview were McCain and Lieberman.....

Funding for 2008 Presidential runs??????>>>>>>

It's funny (not) how recommendations become mandates. Just a bunch of window dressing to cover their arses for when we get attacked again.

He needs to take that big dualie truck of his and drive down to the border from Crawford, sit a spell and watch what's going on. He then has to go to the closest tractor store and buy one so he can pull his head out of his....well, you know.

Border security and immigration reform need to be addressed. I'm in the distinct minority at this forum who think a national verifiable ID is a darn good idea.

But that's a somewhat different issue from whether we should integrate our various intelligence agencies so that we actually can focus on what we've learned and do something about it.

We've only read news accounts of what this bill said, and so the jury has to remain out. That won't stop the jury at FR from casting a verdict, but I'll refrain from casting mine at the moment. Based on initial and unreliable evidence, I suspect passage was a good thing.

It has been, and remains, a "Progressive" slide toward cyberslavery.

They've subverted the SSN into what they are *attempting* to use for a National ID.

This bill will finish the job off (assuming it contains the provisions I read in the House engrossed version) - and finish off freedom in this country in the process.

Up to this point, there was still a possibility that we could step back from the precipice. If the provisions in this bill take effect, it's Game Over.

My Congressman, Joel Hefley of Colorado, says NO to this governmental bureaucratic garbage. Thanks Joe.

Along with Hefley, Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo and outgoing Colorado Congressman Scott McInnis voted against this trash.

There is SOME sanity left in politics.

I'm glad to see my Wisconsin representative James SENSEnbrenner had the SENSE to vote against this. He tried very hard to get the DL# for illegal aliens thrown out, but couldn't make these lamebrains see what they were doing.
