This question strikes me like that of what is a proper way to go to church. Walking only? Horses? Chariots? Sled dogs? Automobiles? Or by what lights should we read the bible in church. Sunlight only? Candles? Kerosene lamps? Electric bulbs? The "simplest" possible method is not always the optimal one.
Personally I think what the Bible states about singing and making melody in our hearts specifically excludes instruments. I suspect we would disagree on this point.
