Indonesian Court Seeks Clemency for Bali Bombers

An Indonesian court has submitted a request for presidential clemency for two men sentenced to death for the Bali nightclub bombings two years ago.

The two Islamic militants did not ask for clemency, but such a request is automatic under Indonesian law in cases where a death sentence is involved.

The two convicted men, Imam Samudra and Amrozi, had key roles in the October 2002 blasts, which killed 202 people, most of them foreigners.

Authorities have blamed the bombings on Jemaah Islamiyah, a regional terror group linked to the al-Qaida network.

Hopefully the refusal of clemency will also be automatic.
