Absolutely. The point I was trying to make is that no one wakes up one day and says, "I think I'll be gay."
They may read a book, then another, then attend a lecture, then participate in a couple of meetings of the gay/lesbian club at school, and so on and so on. Each step is a choice, but the individual isn't truly conscious of saying "Hey, I think I'll be gay."
So, it is a choice, in the sense that it's a set of small choices. Hence, we can argue that the path back from "gayness" is as well.
I've seen many "gay" people I know take that backward path.
