Social security is not going to be fixed until it is bankrupt.

AARP mailings get thrown in the trash here, and they have been arriving for longer than I care to admit.
Among many other follies, the AARP is convinced that old people must be disarmed, in order not to inconvenience people like the one who just broke into a house near me, and beat and robbed two elderly sisters, one of whom had bones broken in her face.
They are a Liberal-infested organization, beneath contempt. If privatizing SS were put forth by Clinton, it would have been amusing to see their response.

4. Enact a national retail sales tax, the only tax that can be raised without political suicide to the levels needed to continue this socialist balck hole.

Extend the wage base for taxes so that achievement-oriented Americans can poor even more money into this financial sewer; more money that they will never, ever get back. First, an aside ... checked the original which also reads poor .. spell check doesn't replace proof reading.
this is where it's headed ... extending the cap to $200K or so ... again, the successful being penalized for their success.

Exactly. Social Security simply can't/won't be fixed until it's too late. The political will just doesn't exist. In a generational competition for political power, older folks always win. The young are dumb/ill-informed/apathetic.

Defeating Democrats, retiring AARP, solving Social Security, and medicating Medicare are problems that all have a perfect solution, the
Reagan Renaissance.FreeRepublic was born to bring about the Reagan Renaissance.
Merry Christmas Freepers. The Reagan Renaissance series will continue on Friday when all the various pieces of the puzzle will fall into place.

Got my 1st AARP mailing when I was 21. Got them to stop when I wrote them I asked them if I could get maternity benefits in their health plan. (I was pregnant at the time)

Even the 2% that could be invested which has been suggested is a pittance! Our Congress is a lamentable joke.

That's what "idiot boy" Lindsey Graham is proposing. Yeah, I saw that too. What makes it tough for me is that money tree in my backyard died last summer. So I guess I'm screwed.

There is a way to solve this problem. It won't be solved by those unwilling to try. The
Reagan Renaissance can solve this problem if people stop whining and get behind it.

AARP is the old folks version of the NAACP - it's perverted beyond usefulness and is being used as a gravy train for those who run it, nothing else.

If young Americans truly had a handle on the future, and on the fact that they will one day reach that magic age when they stop working and live on their retirement income, they would be marching on DC and occupying congressional offices until change was made.
Uh
no
thats what the AARP bunch did in their younger days.
