One of the fastest ways to lose credibility in my eyes is to be a guest on Coast to Coast AM.

What a shame that a homeschool champion is going to join a roster that includes UFO watchers, conspiracy theorists, and Mayan calendar fanatics.

Is that your final answer?

Sheesh!

Do you even know who John T Gatto is?

He might as well be giving an interview to Jean Dixon.

So, your answer is that you have no idea who John Taylor Gatto is?

My question is not about Norry, Bell, or Dixon.

Thanks for the ping, bd476. Wish I could have heard Gatto speak. I've never heard of "Coast to Coast". Is that a radio show? television? Forgive me for my ignorance....I'm a long way from there. LOL

"If you love your kids, don't leave their education solely to the government schools. Get involved every day. If you love your kids and grandkids get them out of public schools. These places get worse by the day."

Texgal, you did great with your kids. These are great words of wisdom you have written: "don't leave their education solely to the government schools."

Abolish the teachers union and having lawyers present when teachers need firing.

That should be a real good start to effective change.

He's a good speaker, Don-O. I heard him at a homeschooling conference a couple of years ago. He's bright, upbeat, inspiring, and my impression is that he is quite the character, (great sense of humor) which is big in my book. :)

Fortunately, I was able to talk to him for a few minutes after the seminar. He does great with one on one too. As people walked up, he acknowledged them, signed autographs, and without missing a beat, would continue talking to me, answering my questions.

I ended up buying "The Underground History..." right then and there, if anything because of his marvelous wit, his intelligence and because I agreed with nearly everything he talked about.

LOL, I think you are too optimistic. Skip the lawyers and no need for a conference - just pink slip 'em ... nah, sorry having a bad moment here, ha ha. It's this doggoned flu/cold which won't let go.

NEA out, permanently out. Read some of Gatto's works, aCAguy, let me know what you think.

Chena, click on the link to Coast to Coast in the first post. That goes to the Coast to Coast web site. It is a radio show, originally begun by Art Bell.

Art Bell is a talk radio host who, according to Onyx, began in political talk radio, then found a niche in the science, astrophysics, sometimes generic brilliant thinkers, sometimes UFO and occasional scary stories format in Radio.

Art Bell retired and only does Saturday and Sunday nights now. George Noory took over for Art Bell, and covers some of the same type stories, but last night Noory interviewed John Taylor Gatto, homeschooling guru. John Taylor Gatto is brilliant and fits in the brilliant thinker category of the Coast to Coast format.

Coast to Coast is broadcast over regular Radio, on the web - live web stream (I provided a link in post#1), on XM radio, and worldwide. Calls come in from overseas occasionally. I have heard several callers phone in from Alaska, though I don't recall which city. Check your local radio station listings late at night and you'll probably find "Art Bell Coast to Coast or "George Noory Coast to Coast."

Invisib1e hand, I would agree with you if I didn't fall asleep most nights listening to Coast to Coast.

While Art Bell and George Noory have had their fair share of kooky callers and guests, they also have interviewed more than a few very intelligent guests.

Also what person currently in the MSM would you recommend as a good candidate to interview John Taylor Gatto, a man who left behind his 30 year teaching career, who was named NYC Teacher of the Year three times, a man who now speaks highly of and advocates the homeschooling movement?

I am unaware if Bill Bennett has been on Coast to Coast yet, but it's a great idea.

What I have is a bunch of transcript like notes, not a transcript. When FR crashed last night, I stopped typing and just listened. My notes are rough draft, just notes of his main points - and I'm not sure it is okay to post rough notes of what he said.

I'd hate for anyone to judge/attack Gatto based upon my notes, judge/attack me based on my notes ;-), start an argument based on my notes, etc.

I wish you had listened. The shows are archived on the Coast to Coast site, however only subscribers can access them.

George Noory asked him what he thought about Darwin. Gatto was awesome - it was fascinating. Gatto covered detailed biographical info on Darwin.

If it's okay with management, I'll post my notes on the show.

I don't recommend anybody. Why have you framed the choices as either Coast to Coast or MSM? Both are lunatic fringe, in my opinion.

Seems like a guy with such great credentials could do better than a late night AM tabloid.

Clear as mud.

While he didn't mention this subject specifically, read this thread to see what is not being taught in public schools:

the first several posts

Gatto said that there is a faulty expectation that learning involves receiving something from a teacher as if the teacher is giving something when teaching. In fact students must do at least 90% of the work in learning.

the invisib1e hand: "I imagine anything that isn't a paint-by-numbers kit would be to you, judging by that remark. Must suck!"

Alas, the ad hominem attack.
