There is an older pencil-neck geek that I work with whose son joined the Army Reserve for the GI bill so he could pay for college. This guy knows his stuff in his field and he is respected in our office for his intellect. One day at lunch (before the election..he's a big Lurch supporter) he starts in on how his son joined to get college paid for, not to go to war.
Well, you know yours truly (Proud US Army vet) wasn't going to leave THAT comment just hanging out there unchallenged. I laid out my argument pretty vociferously and at the end he said "Yes, you are technically correct, but,.." and he never got any further that that 'but' before I told him that "Yes, I AM correct, and there IS no but"
This was on the day of the first debate and from that day on we haven't heard him utter one word about his son, the US Army, the debates, the election, Kerry, nothing... I know I'll never be on his Christmas card list, but I have been in position to need his work expertise since then. At least he knows enough not to withhold that expertise, because then he wouldn't be doing his job.
