If they don't stop the illegal immigration and force the illeglas to go back where they came from the terrorists can blow up this country as far as i'm concerned, it will be a 3rd world cesspool in short order.

So. Calif. is close now.

If Bush got his way, there won't be a word about immigration in this legislation.

Hope you people who voted for Bush are happy...

So everybody caved. I hope the results aren't as dire as I suspect they might be.

I don't know that I'd call it a disaster, but it's useless. The bill has nothing in it to reform asylum immigration (the system most frequently abused by criminal aliens and terrorists), and FORBIDS the federal government to mandate to the states that illegal aliens can't receive drivers licenses. As far as I can tell, the "intel reforms" are basically centralizing intelligence and rearranging the org chart -- what does that matter if terrorists can just walk over the border or get a student visa and waltz right in? But everybody can go home and tell their constituents they passed really important legislation.

goldenstate, I respect you greatly and you are wonderful on this issue, but this CAN'T PASS as a standalone bill. It has to be in a must-pass bill. That's why it was so important not to cave on this. Worse, it was seen by some pundits as a test of the President's ability to get his "amnesty/guest worker" bill through Congress. Hunter had told Sensenbrenner he wouldn't vote for the bill if the immigration reform wasn't in it, then folder under White House pressure. That only encourages the White House to keep hosing us on immigration. We'll be lucky to keep bad things from passing for the next two years, let alone get any reform.

I voted for him on a million other things, but I'd like to bash him in the skull with a hammer over this immigration issue.

That and I'd like him to actually say no to more spending at some point in his Presidency.

All in all, though, right now we need a President who isn't a pansy when it comes to foreign policy, and Bush is it. We can worry about a domestic conservative next election.

To say that I am disappointed would be an understatement. Divide and conquer ruled the day today. Rep. Hunter cut and ran as far as I am concerned. Even giving him the benefit of the doubt concerning the chain of command structure, how are we safer when 1 million illegals enter this country every year? It must be magic that the terrorists don't see this as a glaring hole in our national security.

You're right, an immigration-reform-specific bill is poison to politicians. No one would go near it.

Illegal immigration IS a foreign policy. Dubya bending over the American taxpayer for Vicente Fox and his corrupt Mexico City regime is foreign policy.

Hell no. Nor did I reward Bush with my vote. I wrote-in Tom Tancredo and Michelle Malkin.

You have a point, but our other choice was Kerry, who would have been a waste on EVERY front of our foreign policy.

The other issue was "chain of command" for the spy satellites. As written, the military would have had to beg the civilians to make a pass.

Just what we need, some political hack in charge of our "assets" in space.

The GOP doesnt stand for anything today. Time to change my party affiliation to independent. Go ahead RINOs tell us how you think Bush is king - Bush is an eletist just like his daddy. The GOP better start serving up some real conservatives or they are gonna go the way of the demoncrats real soon.

Is there anything concerning the National ID (backdoor) and the mandate that states must participate in the Driver License Agreement ?

This really was a tweedledee vs. tweedledum election. It's looking more and more that way as time goes by.

We should start with jettisoning the McCains and Hagels of the party.
