Respectfully, as a Christian who is not Catholic.

What is purgatory? and where is it mentioned in the Bible?

What is purgatory?

Purgation is the process whereby those destined for Heaven put on their wedding clothes.

and where is it mentioned in the Bible?

Define "Bible."

Dear wkdaysoff,

"Respectfully, as a Christian who is not Catholic.

"What is purgatory? and where is it mentioned in the Bible?"

Respectfully, as a Christian who is a Catholic, this is a political thread, I think, not a religious thread.

It isn't my interest to offer an apologia for the doctrine of Purgatory. I was merely noting that from what we believe, it's a bit easier to avoid hoping for the damnation of moral monsters.

In Catholic theology, Purgatory is a place or state in which the deceased who have not done sufficent penance for their sins in this life go to finish their penance.

Purgatory is temporary and will cease to exist at the Last Judgment.

The classical Scriptural locus for is 1 Corinthians 3:13-15.

It's not mentioned in the Bible. Purgatory, as far as I can figure out, is a 'holding tank' for people who die and you can pray them out of there so they go to heaven. I don't know if I got that right but that's my impression of it. I don't think it's scriptural.
