California whine?? It was Texas that whined their way into the Rose Bowl. I'll be at the Rose Bowl game, and would much prefer to see a PAC10 team instead of Texas. The damned BCS has drained much of the aura of the Rose Bowl, playing there has been the dream of midwestern kids for generations. But, the Rose Parade & Michigan still will make for an enjoyable trip from FL.

The Rose Bowl was open to all before the contract between the Big Ten and the PAC. I remember seeing Tennessee having a Rose Bowl Trophy in their Honors Case while at Tennessee.
