My uncharitable take on this.... Just another feel good article about these oh so authentic tamale making 3rd world Mexican people. Giving a promotion to the on going illegal alien invasion. White people have no soul but folks from the 3rd world do. These articles out number anti illegal immigration articles by 100:1.

80 years ago it would have been the happy "darkies" eating watermelon in the summer

Many "Hispanics" have ancestors who lived in the Southwest for thousands of years. The West used to belong to Spain/Mexico.

Tamales are wonderful. But I am cooking Borscht this morning. Much less fattening.

Still, real tamales are wonderful.

These people in the story have been her for at least three generations, are citizens, pay taxes and probably have some sons and brothers in our military.

Oh, come on. Mexico is not a "third world country." Anyway, except for the deceased great-grandma (maybe), everyone in the story sounded like an American.

So many times conservatives write about family values, family traditions, worrying about the low birth rate, etc. Well, here you have not only a recipe for tamales, but a recipe for keeping families together, and encouraging families to have lots of children. If Mama's not happy, nobody's happy, and these women sound *happy* doing domestic things, keeping traditions alive, etc.

Tamales are still very tasty. I would never find the time to make them from scratch but you can buy good fresh tamales --- they're certainly not a health food though especially if made right.

I'm sure you feel the same about people with Italian surnames who still make their own pasta for Christmas and the Mc's who make their own soda bread.

I think you're off base on this. These people are not illegal aliens or "3rd world Mexican(s)." They are Americans.

I'm a strong proponent of an orderly and well-enforced immigration policy, and am tired of the "wink-and-a-nod" policy we currently have. But posts like yours make me wonder about the true motivations of some people.

That does it.

No tamales for you.

My uncharitable take on this....

My family came to Texas in 1832 and families like these have been our friends and neighbors since that time. It's a shame that more of us don't have these type of traditions.

You really do have an uncharitable take on this.
