The amount of union support is staggering in some areas.
For two reasons: his name and his skin tone. Pretty damn stupid reasons to "like" him for President in the future. Also discouraging to any ambitious individual without the name who might want to enter public service.
The sad fact is that the Tauzin campaign blew the race themselves. In late October, they went very negative on Craig Romero and aired ads claiming that he was little better than another Ted Kennedy. Without those ads, Craig Romero might have worked to help BT3. As it was, he was probably too offended to want to help, and BT3 would have a real credibility problem accepting help from someone that he had just smeared in that way.
It was a great election day in November, but I'm pretty disappointed today. I gave $100 to Dr. Boustany's campaign, so at least I can console myself with having had a very small part of that win.

If you are "without the name", you are not someone's famous relative AND you are also a person who has not been greatly successful ON YOUR OWN.
Yes being a relative helps, but it did not help Kathleen Kennedy Townsend who lost against a self made man in Bob Ehrlich. JC Watts did it on his own. You can do it on your own and this "celebrity envy" is a wrong attitude. Even people who benefit by being a relative, someone in their family had to do something great first.
Melancon was a state senator for a number of years and he's a true-blue blue dog democrat. He's very cozy with the Landrieu family and thr rest of the LA Democratic establishment. He could switch, but his blue dog blood is pretty thick.
Perhaps he'll switch to the GOP.
