as well as enormous increases in spending on the military after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks Not nearly so massive as the cuts during the Impeached One's term and that of GHW Bush. In 1992 the last Bush I year military spending was 4.9% of GDP, in 2000 it was 3.0% As of 2002 it was back up to a whopping 3.4%.
We are at war. Military spending goes up during wartime. (not enough in this instance, IMHO). Not mentioned of course are the cancellations of entire weapons systems under Rummy, including the Paladin mobile gun and Comanche (semi)stealth helicopter. Those aren't the only ones either. But no one expects anything other than an anti Bush, anti military and anti American agenda from AP these days.

What a complete jerk Thompson is. Why doesn't he issue formal invitations in gold-lined envelopes? We know the food supply is a target. To admit such weakness from his post is almost seditious.

Buy unprocessed foods grown in the USA and stop worrying.

"For the life of me, I cannot understand why the terrorists have not attacked our food supply because it is so easy to do," Thompson said. I nearly fell off my chair when I heard he said this on TV.
What is wrong with him?
That's like telling criminals that I don't know why nobody has robbed my house yet because it would be so easy to break into.
We saw the panic and huge problems a little anthrax in the mail caused this nation...poison in the food supply could be MUCH worse.

Thompson must have forgot his medicine the day he said that. He just flushed his reputation right down the dumper.

What food are we importing from the Middle East? The only thing I eat that comes from Europe is canned olives I picked up at Trader Joes. What the hell was Thompson railing on about?

"For the life of me, I cannot understand why the terrorists have not attacked our food supply because it is so easy to do," Thompson said. I sure wish our enemies would be so "forthright" in telling us where their vulnerabiliites lie. Other countries must be amazed as they watch the American officials identify for their enemies where they are weak.
Dick Cheney is right in saying that it's not a matter of "if" we will be attacked again, but "when."

"Hello! My name is Tommy Thompson, and I am a world-class Nimrod. To prove my worthiness for this label, as a parting shot from a national position I obviously was lacking in IQ for, I made a very dumb-a** comment which could possibly assist terrorists in killing Americans."

I'm thinking disinformation possibly an "op" or "sting" already in place to catch this sort of thing.Or could be Thompson just trying to force an issue that he felt wasn't getting enough attention.

"For the life of me, I cannot understand why the terrorists have not attacked our food supply because it is so easy to do," Thompson said. "We are importing a lot of food from the Middle East, and it would be easy to tamper with that." Well now we know why he is the outgoing chief don't we? What a stupid statement! Is he nuts?
