Got such a great rub down going into Giants Stadium just after 9/11 that I told the woman it was the best back rub I'd had in years.
We were all spooked and truthfully I appeciated the extra scrutiny.

I was frisked at the St Louis airport right after 9/11 and as the guy was putting on the rubber gloves to rummage through my bags I mentioned to him that the last time I saw a man with rubber gloves it was my doctor right before he gave me the finger wave. After that he took his time and I almost missed my flight.

"That kid of thing goes off and everthing within 50 miles of LAX probably dies badly." I share your thinking. To paraphrase Sarah Connor in T2: "Anyone who isn't wearing million-block suncreen is gonna have a very bad day, got it?"
It's pitiful that the norm in LA is to freak out about a bolt of lightning, never mind rain. I'll never forget catching the "Breaking News" on local TV there: "...and now we cut to Brittany, who reports that she actually saw two drops of rain and more rain may be on the way..."

The reason the plane is being kept away is simple:
There be frog surrender monkies on it.

The ranger said it was about landing private aircraft in an area so that the landing would go unnoticed. However, you'd think that the base's radar would pick up any private incoming aircraft.
We do have aircraft that might not show up, although I doubt
they are in private hands.

We need to go out to the flightline for that ciggie. I know my way around. We'll duck into the cab of a high-lift truck!
