"Concocted" just about summarizes it all. A former colleague of this professor told me that its a well known secret in the sociology community that Florida fudged his statistics and that real data doesn't support any of his claims. I think it's only a matter of time before somebody exposes it all.
I think the theory itself has been convincingly shown to be false, but a further exploration of how Florida arrived at his conclusions would be very interesting. Regardless, Florida's disciples appear undeterred by the facts. I have been told that Hickenlooper has had Richard Florida into Denver recently to speak (at city expense, I'm sure), but I have not confirmed that yet.
