>>A Texas friend recently sent the president a copy of Natan Sharansky's book, The Case for Democracy. Bush read most of it and asked Sharansky to meet with him at the White House. Bush praised Sharansky for his years as a dissident in the Soviet Union. To which Sharansky replied, "Now you are the chief dissident of the world." I recently finished Sharansky's book, and think that it is enormously illuminating.
- Sharansky has an important perspective on an critical piece of history (the fall of the Soviet Empire, and the reasons for it).
- He offer an approach to overcoming the Fear Society that Islam represents, and shows how such societies ultimately crumble, often very rapidly.
- His concept of Moral Clarity helps us to understand and explain the many irrational actions regarding the war on Islamic terror, by many Leftists in the West, who lack moral clarity.
I strongly encourage all FReepers to read this book.
"Over the years, I have come to understand a critical difference between the world of fear and the world of freedom. In the former, the primary challenge is finding the inner strength to confront evil. In the latter, the primary challenge is finding the moral clarity to see evil."
