Hey, I am a Southerner, since my parents moved down here to Virginia when I was 10. I was born in the Upper Pen. of Michigan. I consider myself a southerner since I have lived here for 45 years, but I also consider myself a northerner, too. Yank is OK by me. I think we are all Yanks. That is what the British called us in WWII, isn't it? Of course, I was not alive then, but I have seen movies. YANKEE is what southerners who are still fighting the Civil War would not want to be called.

YANKEE is what southerners who are still fighting the Civil War would not want to be called. My wife, born in Atlanta and raised in the south would strongly object to that. It's southern heritage, not the civil war. Yankee is not derogotory it's descriptive, it means a northerner, to a southerner, simple.
