Although I agree that these kids would fare better in an educational system that is better able to address their educational needs, I don't have a problem with autistic children being in public schools.
Perhaps my choice of words was not the best. I do know however special education funding is done at the expense of all the other "normally educatable" children via many unfunded mandates.
The public school has too many jobs to do and probably only half of the kid's time is utilized in educational persuits that benefit them.
AND- I don't disagree with the idea of public education. Give me the option and I want the taxes I pay to go to giving an education to the children who need it. No matter what their religion, their skin color, their abilities or their families income.
Just terrible and while wrong for any child, particularly for autistics. I know I have had my times, nothing like this, where I let my resentment reflect on my autsie and I did an attitude change several months ago. It is amazing how much my son has blossomed and grown with MY attitude change alone. These kids have no confidence in their social skills because they don't come naturally to them and abuse or roughness of any kind really only makes them feel even more insecure about communicating and reaching out to others. This woman has NO business being in charge of autsies, none at all. They are so vulnerable because many don't talk and can't report this abuse.
OH, I know how tough it is. I have an autistic child, but she only made her situation worse by treating them that way. My own child has been so much more receptive to respectful, steady, secure care to a frustrated and frazzled mother all the time. It certainly is tough, but from the elaboration in the story it sounds like her frustration was less over how her autsies behaved and more over the fact that they interupted her PAID time at the computer looking for sex partners. I have no sympathy for someone like that.
I'm sorry, but this is my Mother you're talking about. We seem to forget that what we see and hear on the News is not the truth. My Mom has been teaching for over 20 years. We have over 40 character witnesses against the four who 'came forward'. And the parents who are such 'loving and caring' who thought their children were being abused, are only in this because they can sue the school. She was teacher of the year back when I was younger. I still have a picture of myself and her at the award ceremony, and I still have the stress ball apple she got as a souveneir. I worked in her classroom for more than four years on and off. If you could just see her with the children. They love her.
I hope that one day you'll know the truth. She's not a monster. I hope that one day those lying backstabbing bitches (Who, by the way, had come over to her house on various occasions. One of which, her daughter and son were in the very same classroom for four years each, while she was in the classroom. )
You see, my Mom, Kathy Garrett, didn't abuse anyone. We've got over 40 people to say that in court.
