WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) invoked the service of U.S. troops in dangerous lands Thursday as he heralded the "season of hope" with the lighting of the national Christmas tree.
Before thousands on the Ellipse, Bush and his wife, Laura, joined in turning on some 15,000 colored lights on the 42-foot Colorado blue spruce that has served as the national Christmas tree for more than two decades

It was a very nice, Christmasy program and I thoroughly enjoyed what I saw.
What I got the biggest kick out of was the President's speech, and how much fun he had beginning when the 2 little girls from a Brownie troop in Va lit the tree. Then, they made an announcement for everyone to stay while the President't party left. But you know Dubya, he stayed and shook everyone's hand, including the young choir that was there from Tennessee. The kids in the choir were so excited to shake hhis hand and talk with him. Then he shook a few more hands, sung a few lines of some Christmas songs and then left. He looked like he was having a ball abd could have stayed but knew he had to leave so the rest of the crowd could as well.
A joy to behold, and of course I said another thank you that he is still our President.

The tree decorated with music-themed ornaments is very tasteful and classy.
The reporter notes that the Nativity scene is the center of attention, by the way.
Barney reluctantly visits.
(The reporter does feel compelled to bring up the election and Iraq, ruining the interview to a certain degree. But Laura handles it in her usual graceful way.)

Stuart was a Gore supporter. So was Pam Tillis, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Kathy Mattea, John Michael Montgomery, and Ricky Van Shelton.
Hmmmm? I wonder if they will do the Barney-cam again this Christmas. I always liked those. Next year's ought to be a doozy, with the new pup being introduced.
