Just curious - if you had a child riding a school bus and the driver was "sharing" liberal/left wing stuff (for instance, pro-abortion or F911 conspiracy-theory material), what would you think?

I had a high school teacher 20 years ago that was an early version of today's extreme left. I thought he had a right to an opinion then, even though I thought his ideas were ridiculous.

People seem to think that elementary age students are raised in sound proof, window less cells. They aren't, they're exposed to all sorts of information from school, television, radio, written media and their friends. The stem cell research subject is mild compared to some of the questions I've had to discuss with my children over the last 16 years.

Freedom of speech means freedom for people we disagree with, but that doesn't mean we give up our own freedom for theirs. That's something both the left and the right should keep in mind.;

What I shared was not an opinion, but a scientific fact that was neither political or religious in nature. Do you consider it Conservative/right-wing stuff?

To answer your question, no I would not have a problem with it, because there are few issues my children (9,12,15,17) and I don't discuss. I would have a problem if the driver, unlike me, encouraged them not to tell their parents.

Understanding both sides (or at least being aware of them) seems key to raising rational, objective, healthy and wise children, don't you think?

Depends if it was propaganda, opinion, or fact. If it was a simple fact, and relevant to the conversation, I wouldn't object, even if it was "inconvenient" from my perspective.

She was only sharing a scientific fact with some kids..there is nothing inappropriate about that..it's not like she was talking about aborted babies or sexually transmitted diseases...it's a fact about science and research...it's good for them to get a little factoid on the bus! Better than most things that are shoved down kids throats these days.

One of our daughters has such a driver, and our daughter is very well grounded so I don't worry about such. She comes home and tells us what the bus driver has said, and we talk about it. The students are not swayed by the bus driver's opinions. They tend to believe the same things as their parents. We have not complained about the bus driver because she is adequately transporting our child to and from school. There are liberals everywhere. Our children must learn to cope. I've never considered reporting the bus driver for having a political opinion.
