COMBAT ZONE: TRUE TALES OF GI'S IN IRAQ #1
COVER BY: ESAD RIBI
WRITER: Karl Zinsmeister
PENCILS: Dan Jurgens
INKS: Sandu Florea
THE STORY: Combat comics are taken to a whole new level! Three months in the lives of the 82nd Airborne in the Battle for Iraq are chronicled in this groundbreaking series by long-time embedded journalist Karl Zinsmeister ("Boots on the Ground: A Month with the 82nd Airborne in the Battle for Iraq") and penciler Dan Jurgens (Thor, Superman). In chapter one, "Paratroopers Over The Border," American paratroopers in northern Kuwait must contend with choking sandstorms, high-adrenaline training, and the hair-trigger tension that dominates the tense run-up to war in Iraq. War arrives in deadly fashion on their doorstep in the shape of ballistic missiles. To survive, they must rely on the skills of men whom theyve never met, but whose fates are inexorably linked to their own.

DC Comics used to have a comic book called "The Nam." Which was really well done and had excellent stories and art. Hopefully this one will be the same way.

SEND IN NICK FURY and his HOWLING COMMANDOS!
To: martin_fierro
Oh MAN, Fury was my favorite book to collect when I was a kid (and back issues were cheaper). I used to have #1, but I still have a good many of the issues, including #4, when Junior Juniper was killed, #18 when Pam Hawley was killed, and the best one ever, #9...Mission: CAPTURE HITLER!

Noted. My mistake. "Sgt. Rock of Easy Co." was DC's though. The one's with John Severin's art were awesome. Some of Easy's stories were heartwrenching.

The Nam. Yeah I remember that one. Algore invented and penciled it and it starred John F'in Kerry.

Careful. Marvel has taken a hard left turn since I was a kid. I think there was a Captain America series where cap was chasing a Muslim terrorist and in the end the terrorist convinced Cap that the Muslims were right to do what they did.
I stopped collecting them in my mid twenties when they turned my favorite, Iron Man, into a cold blooded murderer. He even killed Jarvis the Butler if I remember correctly.

Interestingly, though not surprisingly, this book is being denounced as Neocon propoganda by many in comics, because it was created and written by Karl Zinsmeister, the EIC of The American Enterprise magazine.

Dust Jam.
DC came up with some tortured premises...

...but that one takes the cake.
