Of course, the other day there was a troll who kept saying that 'anyone who disagrees with Dubya is a troll/traitor/liberal/etc etc etc.'

Sometimes they're easy to spot.

"Ping" is one of the most prolific posters here on FR. The guy really gets around, doesn't he? He must also be psychic. Somehow he always draws my attention to threads I'm really interested in. I don't know how he does it because we've never met!

I would say that "There everywhere." is a sentence. You have no verb. As it appears to refer to the spelling police, they're is the easiest way to fix it. Since they're and there are homonyms, it was reasonable to think you had porked it up by accident, hence the police action.
