Want to know what's significant about that map?

That the majority of spoilage seems to run right along routes 271 and 422.

So what are they saying, "Blacks can not vote for Bush?"

And also route 90.

Very suspicious.

Boy, the RINOS caved into the Reverend Jesse Jackson at an all time speed.

Spoilage? As in "didn't vote correctly"?

Whoops, I thought that was a surrounding counties map.

Majority of spoilage still seems to run along major route of travel though.

Considering how many Democrats were facing the choice
of "which candidate is worse?"...blank votes for Presidency
shouldn't be that much of a surprise. There's a real message there for the DNC! Leaving the President/Vice President slot blank while voting for other offices and issues was ALSO a choice.

Do we know what the margin is after the provisional votes? This whole sideshow had almost slipped my mind.

What the map creator defines as "ballot spoilage" is not ballot spoilage. Ballot spoilage is when a mistake has been made on a ballot and the voter requests a new one. The original ballot is spoiled and is not to be counted.

The map creater uses the definition of "undervotes" as a synonym for ballot spoilage. Undervotes could very well be intentional. I routinely and intentionally undervote in my US Congress race.

I don't like it when the language is corrupted.

No, like they were driving along some major routes and voting frequently.

Does not voting on an issue/candidate void the ballot?

Could it be that blacks' interests were completely ignored by Kerry this year, so they just looked to parochial concerns? Or that they share neighborhoods with large numbers of immigrants and elderly who have had difficulty with their ballots?

I just wanted to hear you say it in so many words. Thanks.

How likely will this turn out to be ballots cast in predominantly black precincts with a vote for Bush and Kerry on the same ballot? How does the Bush / Kerry vote compare to the national split (11/89)? In other words, was there an effort to invalidate the black vote for GWB?

It would also include double-votes and chaddery. So "undervotes" is not an accurate term either.

Personally, I don't think someone would wait in line for a long time to vote for dog catcher. The pres race was the "big shew."

When I voted in Gautier, MS I had the strangest thing happen. I was in line behind a woman whos ballot was kicked back out ( optical scanner ) I stole a peek at the ballot and she had voted for W AND Nader. I began to understand at that point why a butterfly ballot may confuse some voters.
