From an engineering perspective, the Edsel was a damn good car. Robert Strange MacNamara made the decision to kill the Edsel line before the public rollout was begun. In short, a mushy-headed liberal took a good idea and killed it.

Additionally, Bob Hope's reference to the toilet seat grill didn't help the Edsel.
