Inside Politics (Brokaw & his successor in Bloggers/MoveOn at a Standstill)
The Washington Times ^ | December 1, 2004 | Jennifer Harper

Blogger angst NBC's Tom Brokaw signs off the air tonight after 21 years as anchorman, and will be replaced tomorrow by correspondent Brian Williams. Both have opinions about Internet bloggers — whose dogged pursuit of CBS' Dan Rather helped expose his use of forged documents in a "60 Minutes" story that questioned President Bush's National Guard service. Mr. Brokaw is not threatened by bloggers. --snip-- Mr. Williams — who called himself a "big NASCAR freak, a 'gear-head,' " in an NBC interview yesterday — is even less receptive. Bloggers are "on an equal footing with someone in a bathroom with a modem," he told attendees at a recent Time magazine "Person of the Year" luncheon. --snip--

Move off "MoveOn.org is at a standstill. Election Day gave the hyper-liberal ('progressive') organization a case of the blues," noted the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Monday. With "pandemic shell shock," supporters of Sen. John Kerry staged 1,680 house parties on Nov. 21 to recover and "analyze how MoveOn.org should move on." Revelers proposed a nationwide consumer strike plus a boycott of ATMs produced by companies that make electronic voting machines — which suggested "a degree of cluelessness quite staggering," according to the paper. It concluded, "At a San Francisco party, someone said Republicans won on issues such as God, guns and gays, while the opposition did not have a clear message. It might be simpler than that. One actually believed in something, while the other only wanted to defeat Bush. Until 'progressives' offer more than liberal opposition, MoveOn.org will go nowhere."

Williams has assured that he will now be scrutinized with more intensity than the bulbs in his sunbed could ever generate. Fool.

You're off to a really good start there gear-head freak guy. I'd wager you really like guns, too, huh? Guess what son, it's time to justify your existence. Good luck. Must be hell having a PhD in typewriter repair.

Aw, poor Tommy Brokaw is "bothered" that bloggers give their political opinions of news coverage -- but, of course, he doesn't object to MoDo or Frankie Rich doing the same thing in their NYT columns. He thinks blogs are are "healthy" thing -- unless they express opinions that aren't liberal.

Bye, Tommy, we knew ye all too well. Maybe you can devote your retirement years to telling graduating classes how they'll never amount to much.

I shall join MoveOn in this boycott. I promise that I will not buy a Diebold ATM on the day of the boycott. In fact, I'll go even further--I'll refrain from buying Diebold ATM machines for the entire week encompassing the boycott.

Kind of makes you wonder. If there too stupid to use punch card ballots, too paranoid to use electronic ballots and too illiterate to use write in ballots, just what does that leave?

I heard Diebold was gonna start collecting all the fractions of cents from all the accounts in the red states and funnel them to Halliburton in an attempt to make Dick Cheney the richest man in the galaxy

I was just at my bank. The vacuum tube system is made by Diebold. When my cash came back it was a few dollars short. No doubt sucked out by the republican deposit tubes and funneled to conservative interests. This is OK with me. Please inform DU, so that they can obsess over it.

You know, you reminded me (I'm sorry, this is off track) that all my voting life (I'm 62), I've used paper ballots, you know the kind that you black in the boxes with a #2 pencil? Great stuff, it's been wonderful being a part of small town America (in Texas). Do you know that we didn't have one hanging chad in ANY election? No computers to blame except for dull #2 pencils.

Do you think maybe we ought to go back to that system? It requires reading though, especially when you're voting local issues.

OK, now back on track!

I'm sure those two San Fagdisco yuppies that started BowelMoveOn.org will be perfectly OK; they'll just take the few million of Soros' money that they've siphoned offshore and go build a house in the Marin County redwoods with a squirrel-friendly hot-tub. no problem...
