That's right. I think the longest sniper kill ever documented was US Marine Gunnery Sergeant Carlos N. Hathcock at 2500 yards in Vietnam.

When my son was 13 or 14, he handed me a book, Marine Sniper, and said "Read this Mom, you'll love it!" The Carlos Hathcock story is incredible.

No, close, but the Canadians have it in Afghanistan

2430 Meters or 7987.5 feet as opposed to 7500 feet for the Gunny.

Still impressive both ways!

As a result of his skill Sergeant Hathcock was twice recruited for covert assignments. One of the them was to kill a Frenchman who was working for the North Vietnamese as an interrogator. This individual was torturing American airmen who had been shot down and captured. One round from Carlos' modified Winchester Model 70 ended the Frenchman's career.

Even then the french were pond scum boot lickin slugs.
