Something's fishy in Ohio (JESSE JAGMO ALERT)

Chicago Sun-Times ^ | November 30, 2004 | JESSE JACKSON

In the Ukraine, citizens are in the streets protesting what they charge is a fixed election. U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell expresses this nation's concern about apparent voting irregularities. The media give the dispute around-the-clock coverage. But in the United States, massive and systemic voter irregularities go unreported and unnoticed.

Ohio is this election year's Florida. The vote in Ohio decided the presidential race, but it was marred by intolerable, and often partisan, irregularities and discrepancies. U.S. citizens have as much reason as those in Kiev to be concerned that the fix was in.

Jackson questions Bush win

Jackson called for a recount and a federal probe of how the election process is being handled in the state. He wants Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell to step down from overseeing any more of the certification process.

"The integrity of our political process is on trial," Jackson said, speaking Monday before about 200 community, religious and labor leaders at Integrity Hall in Bond Hill.

Jackson complained about uncounted punch-card votes, disqualified provisional ballots, unequal access to voting machines in some urban areas, and the lack of an audit trail on some electronic machines.

According to unofficial results, Bush defeated Kerry in Ohio by 136,000 votes.

Jackson questioned why exits polls in Ohio and two other states differed from actual results on Election Day.

That is probably why I see all of those mass demonstrations in Cleveland everyday on my way to work /sarcasm

LOL.

What's the matter, FO? Afraid the new elections might not turn out like you want? I wonder if the "Russian east" will break quite so heavily for Yanukovich this time around...
