David Icke used to be a professional soccer player. He then became a TV presenter before going mad, stating on TV that he was "The Son of God" and a load of balls about tidal waves and earthquakes that were going to destroy Britain and, if I remember correctly, some other carp about flying saucers.

Unfortunately, it's not. I read this thread immediately after http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1291131/posts which is a far more sober presentation of the same information. Summary: European countries spent most of their existances trying to unify Europe; now it is happening voluntarily and without a single strike ... do not take lightly what those in power above the member states may/will do with that power.
