That's Liberals for ya. Once they get their slice of prime real estate, they want to sue anyone else trying to enjoy similar (or better) arrangements than they have. Only the Liberals use ridiculous enviro-whacko laws to bolster their case. This has been true throughout California and is the primary reason why land is so ridiculously expensive out here.

In the Paris valley of Virginia, there are some old horsie estates. Hwy 15 goes from Winchester, to meet I-66 just west of Marshall. From the Clarke County line, until you get to 66 (about 20 miles +/-), they changed the speed limit to 45, and banned thru trucks. Now the trucks have to go down I-81 to connect with 66, and it adds about 50-60 miles to the trip. (I would show the map here, but can't get the image to display: http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?ed=M7tNO.p_0TqT&csz=paris%2C+va&country=us&new=1&name=&qty=)

It has probably cost a few hundred million by now, in lost productivity, and extra fuel costs, so these folk can have a little enclave of their own. It has also added a substantial amount to the court system, for it is heavily enforced (which means- SPEED TRAP)

The few are more politically wired, than the many...

In addition, about 10-12 yrs ago, Disney wanted to build a historic al theme part, just east of this area. the nimby's went to work, and beat them back. No clue what the blow was to the economy, but methinks that Disney would have gotten much income from this thing, and would have hired a lot of folk...

I bought land next to a state WMA forest, and hopefully it won't get developed before I die. But, down the road to my place, about a mile, they have begun buiding high saturation developments... oh, well! I still have places in NM and AZ, where the antelope roam, and lots of jackrabbits stare at you!!
