Ukraine to Declare Moscow Mayor, Political Strategist Personae Non Gratae for Yanukovich Support

Ukraine’s foreign policy body will announce Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov and political strategist Gleb Pavlovsky personae non gratae for their support of pro-Moscow presidential candidate, Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich.

The two political leaders, in a formal statement to be released Monday, are accused of “inciting nationalist strife, war, propaganda of fascism, and making statements discrediting the democratic process in the Ukraine,” the Russki Kurier daily reported.

Yuri Luzhkov earlier traveled to the Russian-speaking Donetsk region to endorse Yanukovich, as did President Vladimir Putin in several statements.

Speaking at the All-Ukrainian Congress of Deputies in Severodonetsk, Luzhkov criticized the opposition for being an “orange orgy”, while Yanukovich supporters in the east were “calm, creative forces”, NTV television reported in a broadcast.

Pavlovsky, meanwhile, was on Yanukovich’s campaign staff as a political ’spin doctor’. He was Putin’s top advisor and strategist in the 2000 presidential campaign, and worked for Boris Yeltsin in the 1996 presidential campaign.

"On the one hand, we see the sabbath of witches who have been fattened up with oranges and who pretend that they represent the whole of the nation; on the other hand, we see the peaceful power of constructive forces that has gathered in this hall." - Yuri Luzhkov

Yuri Luzhkov, the mayor of Moscow, led the campaign to bring back the toppled statue of Soviet Cheka founder Felix Dzerzhinsky to Lubyanka Square. Luzhkov is connected to Marc Rich as well as such Russian Mafia figures as Semion Mogilevich, and Vladimir Gusinsky.

In the Ukraine, Putin and the Soros-backed Russian mob are for the same candidiate, Yanukovych.

Putin maybe, Soros backed mob, I dont think so. The Open Society office in Moscow have been closed and their lease reneged.

The Ukraine may want independence, but they better get used to a cold winter with no gas from Russia like the Russians did before.

One of the few differences between Yuri Luzhkov and Yanukovich is that Yanukovich actually spent time in jail for a couple of his crimes. Luzhkov on the other hand....

Putin is at war with the oligarchs in Russia, but they are allies when it comes to Ukraine. Does it surprise anyone that both sides in Russia support the continuation of the Russian mob controlled Ukrainian kleptocracy, and the domination of Ukraine by Russia?

Before the election Kuchma's son-in-law Viktor Pinchuk invited Soros to an official visit to Ukraine, as well as others such as Wesley Clark, Richard Holbrooke, Zbigniew Brzezinski, and Russian oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky. Pinchuk supports Yanukovych.

The Soros-aligned Russian mob/oligarchs are Yanukovich's strongest supporters next to Putin - if not more so.

From all appearances Putin operates in other theatres under the dictum "The enemy of my enemy is my friend -- for the time being."

I thought for sure I saw threads last week that showed Soros aligned with GW and the other Viktor not Yanukovich, who is he aligned with and who is GW supporting?

That claim cannot be verified. It came from the Yanukovych camp and remains only a rumor. Soros' tie to the oligarchs who support Yanukovych are well documented.

Sometimes this entire Ukraine election gets rather complicated, thanks.

First Viktor Pinchuk is a Ukrainian Oligarch. But wait, all the Oligarchs and mafias (whom ever makes up those, like say all of the Soros opposition) are Russian, right? How could this guy be Ukrainian, I feel sooo confused.

iktor Pinchuk invited Soros to an official visit to Ukraine, as well as others such as Wesley Clark, Richard Holbrooke, Zbigniew Brzezinski, and Russian oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

Now wait, Brzezinski calls for Russian dismemberment all the time, Holbrooke and Clark and Mad Cow Albright supported this move, but here you're stating that they were brought in to support the Russian side? Hmmm, 1+1=5?

Yet Soros has tried to topple Putin and was kicked out of Russia. Is this the same way that Bush is on Soros' side, which by the way is not Yanukovich's side, do some research, even though Soros tried to topple Bush? As for the oligarchs, do you mean the ones in exile writing/buying anti-Putin articles, just like their independent papers Moscow Times and St. Petersburg Times?

You can't have it both ways, you know.

Victor Pinchuk is a member of the International Crisis Group of which all the above mentioned people are members. Maybe you can explain why Soros' partner Pinchuk supports Yanukovych.

In Russia Putin struggles for power amongst the oligarchs, but in Ukraine it serves his purpose to keep the oligarchy in power because it preserves Russian domination of Ukraine.

"Mr Yushchenko has pledged to review the controversial privatisation of Kryvorizhstal, Ukraine's biggest steel mill, which was sold to Mr Pinchuk and Mr Akhmetov earlier this year for $800m (€604m, £424m), far less than foreign bidders were prepared to offer."

Is that the Russian oligarchy in power or the Ukrainian oligarchy, since the ones in Ukraine are not the same as the ones in Russia. Now the ones in Ukraine, you say, answer to Putin, a foreign leader and a man who can barely keep his own oligarchs under even a semblance of control, but is able to keep the Ukrainian ones in line, regardless of Kuchma. What's his secret in Ukraine vs his lack of one in Russia?

Hmmm, this sounds exactly the same as what Putin has done but you have gone out of your way to criticize Putin's actions vs oligarchs. Why?

And yet everyone elses names on that list dispise Russia and have constantly for 15 or more years called for its dismemberment. You don't notice things don't add up? If this is the case, why was Soros' foundation and his imperial grace kicked out of Russia?

He called on Kuchma to resign because of the Gongazde scandal in favor of Yushchenko only because Yushchenko was Prime Minister at the time. This does not imply endorsement of Yushchenko, only a rebuke of Kuchma.

In Russia, Soros and Putin's interests coincide, just as in Georgia, President Bush's and Soros' interests coincide.
