I've worked Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, and now Holland via my "back yard" repeater.

DX from an HT! That goll-darned internet is sumthin else, ain't it?

Riots, by their very nature, tend to be rather indescriminate in their fury.

Please remember that you're talking to a resident of Los Angeles. I spent most of my time on my front porch with two loaded shotguns from the end of April through the first week of May of 1992.

The mob fears the armed. Not vice-versa.

"Dutch Lawmakers are being heavily pressured by the citizenry to halt further Muslim immigration entirely, to deport non-citizen Muslims, and the jailing of anyone encouraging Islamic radicalism."

Those are all EXCELLENT ideas, and I hope they are all implemented without delay. Especially the halting further immigration part. Why any nation is letting more Muslims in is beyond me.

the only problem with your point, is that they are using VOIP to contact, not the radio waves.

I thought you were talking about Neal Boortz's producer. That is her name and she DOES rule.

When I was in Amsterdam in 1976 the nice white lady at the tourist information center warned me away from Muslim areas refering to them as 'n*****s', her word not mine. (I was in the Army at the time, and I wonder if she thought Americans used that kind of language? Use of the n-word was very uncommon, even among enlisted people in the Army. I mean for God's sake if you don't like Black folks, you have absolutely no business in the Army.) Dutch people always struck me as sort of childlike and completely unrealistic in their appreciation of the world.

This might be a "character building" experience for the modern Dutch character.

Most Dutchmen don't believe, as Theo Van Gogh quipped, "Allah Knows Best."

Also, that "unwritten rule" was American in scope, rather than international.

The written international prohibition is covered under Part 97, paragraph 117 of the FCC Amateur Radio Rules.

You must have meant the Dutch, right?

Danes are much tougher than the Dutch.

When the Nazis demanded all Jews in Denmark identify themselves with armbands, the king of Denmark did it also.

and, to remarks of a personal character for which, by reason of their unimportance, recourse to the public telecommunications service is not justified.

We're talking about one ham's opinion of current events there. That makes them (1) personal, (2) unimportant to the extent this guy's opinion is just that, and (3) not worthy of public telecommunication. (Or, will you argue that his opinion should be the subject of BBC specials and other such public telecommunications service?) Seems to comply with the letter of the law to me.

If it went out over his repeater, it was over radio waves.

"This post represnts the first direct Internet reporting (that I have seen) using ham radio transmissions."

I have give thought to the extreme importance ham radio could mean to all internet users, and Freepers in particular. I envision a site, or sites which are "virtual ham radios." Instead of the use of repeaters and the diligence of the ham afficiados who go to great lengths to pull in those extreme DX signals, why not have an internet site which streams live ham signals which originate locally from around the world. I know this would cause disgust among the ham purists, but think of the news value of uncensored views by those "on the scene."

I'll admit, it was a stretch...

However, I have a good friend, a naturalized US citizen from Kuwait named Obayed. He is a devout Muslim that is horrified at the atrocities that have been committed in the name of Islam.

He has said many times to me (and I believe him), that he'd be the first American to shoot down a "savage animals like those beheading people in Iraq" if he could get his hands on some.

I know he has spent some time consulting/translating for the Federal Government.

So, your saying when that bloke from New Zealand ran Net Control for the National Hurricane Center, he was breaking the law too?

Hi Freedom,

Thank you for posting that regulation. The first part is written in such a way as to be understandable by anyone.

However, there is one phrase within it that is hard to decipher. What do they mean by this part:

"...by reason of their unimportance, recourse to the public telecommunications service is not justified..."

[recourse (n): 1. A turning or applying to a person or thing for aid or security 2. One that is turned to for aid or security.]

Would you please explain what is meant in that part of the federal regulation? Thanks.

If you mean the Ham Radio Pinglist, I'll forward you own to whomever maintains it (once I remember who that is).

If you want to be updated with further info via this radio contact, I'll do that if you like.

Could I be on the verge of a newfound respect for the Danes here?

Not as long as they remain Euro-socialist scum, I hope.

Brilliant conceptualizing. Outstanding idea. Such a site would completely bypass the Mainstream legacy media's filtering of foreign reporting.
