I think we should be funding this...The potential to save lives and cure diseases is just too great to ignore. Lets cut welfare 50% (corporate and social) and increase the funding a million percent or so...

We are. Many states are encouraging cord blood donation.

This is not embryonic stem cell research...we are already doing research in stem cells from umbilical cord blood.

Considering how xenophobic, how insular (how racist, maybe?) are the Koreans, cloning may be a biological necessity!

Having two family members with paralysis, I am a bit skeptical. Aside from repairing the woman's spinal chord, how did they overcome twenty years of muscular atrophy and other damage brought on by the paralysis?

Yup, we have to be extremely skeptical about this.

Yep--I'm also dubious, but hopeful that it pans out. It's amazing things that often provide the clues that have been heretofore missing.

It's almost TOO good to be true.

I'm guessing she had regular physical therapy (maybe that electro-stim thing as well?). Recall, they mention she IS on a walker and maybe will get no further than that (we'll see). Only a handful of people there are having this experimental treatment and they are about six months away from actually publishing their findings. Again, we'll see but so far this sounds 1,000% better than anything leading up to this point.

Yes. I have a paralyzed relative. He has no muscles left. I am not sure I believe this story is true.

Well, this particular patient might be the exceptional one that leads researchers to new treatments. Sometimes it's the one person in a population that escapes infection that helps find a vaccine...although this is different science, the point is similar.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Actually asking pertinent questions, that this piece of propaganda bs doesn't even mention. Sounds like a scheme to get rich people to open their wallets.

Additionally, umbilical cord blood stem cells trigger little immune response in the recipient as embryonic stem cells have a tendency to form tumors when injected into animals or human beings.

Umbilical cord blood and embryonic stem cells are apples and oranges but are constantly lumped together. Tumors may be God's little way of telling us this is wrong.

I was thinking the very same thing. But, they did only say that she "walked again with the help of a walking frame" and it was only a few shuffling "steps".

Nevertheless, I look at this as BEAUTIFUL, and yet another reason to give thanks during this holiday weekend.

This would be great if true. I'm a T-6 complete para, with hopes of someday standing under my own power, again.
