Senior Muslim reaches out to Catholics (Florida)
The Sun-Sentinel ^ | 11/26/2004 | Ruth Morris

Weston - In a gesture of sympathy and outreach, local Muslim leader Altaf Ali on Thursday stood before the parishioners of St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church and condemned recent militant attacks on Catholic churches in Baghdad, insisting the violence ran counter to the "true tenet" of Islam.

The Thanksgiving speech, delivered before a hushed congregation, referred to a string of bombings at churches in Baghdad, including predawn assaults on Oct. 16, the first day of Ramadan, that killed three and injured about 40 civlians.

"Your suffering is my suffering. Your sorrow is my sorrow. Your happiness is my happiness," said Ali, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Miami. "We are brothers and sisters in faith."

Ali's visit came in response to a commentary published last week in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel by the church's pastor, the Rev. Paul Edwards. In it, Edwards lamented the assaults on Baghdad churches and parishioners, and noted that after the 9-11 terror attacks the archbishop of Miami had visited a local Islamic center to stand behind Muslims who might be targeted in reactionary violence.

This Ali character is apparently a CAIR mouthpiece, and cannot be trusted.

It is a stunt, IMHO.

those words will be very comforting as his fellow muslims are cutting off your head.

its not enough that some say some things against killing non-muslim civilians even if it is genuine. they need that sentiment to be to prevalent one among muslims or they are all still on the same side against us.

He says one thing in English in public at a Catholic church.

What does he say in Arabic behind the mosque doors to his fellow Muslims?

he very well may be genuine as much as i am sure many muslims would like peace. the problem is that until that feeling is able to take control over the ones that want to conquer the world every muslim is on the wrong side. the more power they get even the genuine ones arent going to be so friendly to non-muslims.

"...insisting the violence ran counter to the "true tenet" of Islam."

Maybe he thinks we aren't able to read the Koran.

no reason to reject such overtures...

I agree.  After 9/11 many said they wanted Moslem leaders to condemn terrorism.  So when someone like Altaf Ali condemns terrorism we either say we got what we wanted or we admit that we're not willing to be satisfied.

If he's an Islamist then he can't be trusted.

Actions speak louder than words, and the Muslim community's inaction is deafening. I don't trust them.

" . . . or we admit that we're not willing to be satisfied."

Count me in that number. I won't be satisfied until they deliver up every radical and terrorist living in their communities.

I won't be satisfied until they get off the dole, obey our laws, respect our nation and keep their 'religion' out of our faces.

Better yet, I won't be satisfied until all traces and remembrances of this cult of death evaporate into the ethers.

Apparently, Ali is aware that there are approximately 1 billion Catholics ( less if you count the cafeteria type ). If the Church ever woke up and decided on a Crusade, secular governments would be hard pressed to stop it.

The Prophet Muhammad said, "Lying is wrong, except in three things: the lie of a man to his wife to make her content with him; a lie to an enemy, for war is deception; or a lie to settle trouble between people" (Qu'ran, 6.459).

"We are brothers and sisters in faith."

Nice political overture.

Lousy theology!

Prophet of Doom - Islam’s Terrorist Dogma, In Muhammad’s Own Words

Islam is a caustic blend of regurgitated paganism and twisted Bible stories.
Muhammad, its lone prophet, conceived his religion solely to satiate his lust for power, sex, and money.
He was a terrorist.

And if you think these conclusions are shocking, wait until you see the evidence at www.prophetofdoom.net.

""The Thanksgiving speech, delivered before a hushed congregation""

OK, I remember when we had AIDS infected people get up in front of our parish and talk about how if education was funded then we would end the problem.

Then we heard from Gays saying that if only they had blessings that would heal everyone.

I'm really sorry but I have heard too may "spokes-persons" who can give a really good story but speak for nobody.
