LOL ((((pod)))))

However, I was brought up to respect my elders. They did a good job of that, at least. (And, it serves to protect *them* in the long run!)

Respecting one's elders doesn't mean letting them get away with wholesale lying or fantasizing.

Somebody's gotta speak the truth.

I pretty much knew that, even before I Googled his name.

Well, welcome to Oregun. You may be in for a little culture shock. Don't let the latte sipping, self hating, petuli smelling, tree hugging, Birkenstock wearing, socialists scare you. They are harmless.. unless you pay taxes.

Thanks, I lived here from 1976 - 1986. I retired from the Oregon Army National Guard. US Navy 1963-1976 (Viet Nam Veteran), ORARNG 1976-1985.

My goal is to turn blue Oregun into a red state.

As I tried to point out unsuccessfully, I thought you took Dr Raoul's sarcasm as fact, then again I'm not sure he was being sarcastic. Whatever, hehe.

Somebody's gotta speak the truth.

.45MAN tried. My father nearly stroked out. My mother asked us not to discuss politics anymore and we acquiesced to their wishes.

I'm not going to have them around much longer and I know I can't change them, so it's something I have to give in to.

Friends and acquaintances are a different story. I don't hold back and have lost "friends" - I use that term loosely because I realize they weren't really friends to begin with. Someone at my former place of work when we lived in Atlanta tried to get me fired for my political views. It backfired on her. That was a beautiful thing to see.

Do you think Maureen Dowd makes things up just so she can constantly whine?

No, the things she makes up, she moans about. Why didn't she stuff those mashed potatoes in her ears and just turn herself into the democratic party? It sounds like her own brothers would tie her up and take her over to DU offices at the slightest suggestion. Better yet, maybe they can send her to Michael Moore for Christmas. What a pretty couple they would make.

By far the best Maureen Dowd column I have ever read. Seems to be...well...truthful.

It wasn't difficult. It seems that every article she is blathering on about her homosexual friends or some aspect of homosexuality, in general. You'd think that a woman, on the rebound from Michael Douglas, could figure out that she's going to have better luck at a relationship if she hangs around with heterosexual men.

Maureen Dowd's Best Column Ever

That's because she turns it over to her brother Kevin, whom she describes--a bit dismissively, or am I being too sensitive?--as "a salesman." Before yielding the floor to Kevin, Maureen writes:

I've been surprised, out on the road, how often I get asked about my family. They're beyond red - more like crimson. My sister flew to West Virginia in October to work a phone bank for W.
People often wonder what our Thanksgiving is like.

It's lovely - if you enjoy hearing about how brilliant Ann Coulter is, how misguided The New York Times's editorial page is, and how valiant the president is as he tries to stop America's slide into paganism.

This year, my brothers were on the warpath about news reports that Maryland public schools did not teach about Thanksgiving from a religious perspective. "Who do they think the Pilgrims thanked?" demanded Martin. "God."

There are moments - when my brothers are sharing some snarky thing Rush Limbaugh said about me, or the latest bon mot from Pat Buchanan, with whom they grew up - that I'm tempted to stuff my ears with my mom's potato stuffing, or go off and read a book by David Sedaris [Ed.: Who?] about normal family life.

Kevin's worth reading, but better yet is the thought of Maureen stuffing her ears with potatoes to keep conservative thoughts from seeping into her brain.

I know! Many LLL'ers don't just think about stuffing their ears.

Can you hear me now?

"MoDO was adopted. Interesting."

For those that didn't catch your sarcasm, Maureen Dowd wasn't adopted.

She's just a person who has nothing in common (except DNA) with her biological family....not that I can relate, or anything.
