US-Supported OTPOR now Ignites Ukraine
OTPOR is the Serbian abbreviation for "resistance" and the name given to the activists who, overthrew former Yugoslavian leader Slobodan Milosevic four years ago . It was once a term used to illustrate events in Georgia, and is now part of the so-called "Velvet Revolution" in Ukraine.
The US backed Serbian movement continued it's studies in "democracy export" in Belarus.
The "velvet revolutionists" in Georgia modeled themselves on OTPOR and the pro-Westerns in the Ukraine, hope to achieve similar results with similar tactics.
The Center for Nonviolent Resistance (CNR), which is based in Belgrade, advised President Mikhail Saakashvili's "peaceful coup" in Georgia a year ago. The CNR, or the "Democracy Movement", in which prominent members of OTPOR played an active role, increased its presence in the Ukraine after the so-called "Rose Revolution" in Tbilisi. The US and the European Union (EU) have provided them with a considerable amount of financial and moral support.
Advisers and US election experts lead the Ukrainians as well.
OTPOR movement seized attention with the colorful and peaceful meetings it organized to oust Milosevic. In Ukraine, pro-democracy proponents' continue with their "nonviolent protests" through "patience and success".
In addition to activities in Ukraine, OTPOR advises the democracy movement in Belarus as well. Opponents from Ukraine and Belarus, who viewed the success of CNR in Belgrade and Tbilisi, have reportedly benefited from this service "in return for money". On the other side, a student movement calling themselves PORA ("The Time Has Come") has "perfectly" applied OTPOR's tactics in it's attempt to overthrow the pro-Russian administration in Ukraine. Similar to PORA, another student movement named KMARA ("Enough") organized itself in Georgia.
Meanwhile, a founder of OTPOR and a passionate leader of the organization, Alexander Marich, was detained at Kiev's Borispol airport and denied entry by the Ukrainian administration in recent weeks. He is a consultant with a US based institution called the Freedom House that conducts studies for the "export of global democracy", with the sponsorship of various US institutions including George Soros' Open Society Institute.
In the so-called "Velvet Revolutions" in these three countries, US ambassadors iplayed a leading role. The "official" cost of the US supported Ukrainian opposition will be at least $14 million.

Seen the pattern before. Ignore election results - charge fraud - easy enough to do - call for demonstartions and shut down the capital - get the Western parties like the EU to mediate on your behalf.
bump
Bump for later discussion.
And the US seems to fall for this every time.
It's sad to see we are that naive.
Dick Morris was involved. Wonder what other lefties contributed to this mess?
Great news. Thanks for the report. Maybe they can get a real democracy.
Didn't the Serbs fight
Muslims? Does this article
say the US now
has thrown support to
Muslim groups in the Ukraine?
(It's hard to believe
we'd support Muslims
after the terror attacks
Russia has endured . . .)
Has Georgia become more corrupt or less corrupt since Sheverdaze's exit?
Have insurgents had an easier time or a more difficult time traversing Georgia into the Pankisi and Chechnya beyond since Sheverdnaze's exit?
Or would you say no change? Just a question, for anyone who knows the answer. I always thought Sheverdnaze was giving free passage to Chechens, and I always assumed it was in return for Saudi money. I always noticed that our Green Beret trained and trained his police to get them ready to go into the Pankisi, but they never went. Actually, they eventually went (once) after Russia threatened to invade, but they announced the operation two weeks in advance, sticked to the roads, and found nothing.
But thats just the way my mind works.
Georgia=no change to really to early to tell - somewhere in there

The election in the Ukraine was verifiably a fraud, just like the one Milosevic failed to steal in Serbia - and this isn't a partisan American issue, it isn't about Soros, and it's not about some resurgent Ukrainian Nazism. It's one of the simple American value of rule by the people through free and fair elections vs. whatever the hell it is you're trumpeting.
Pray tell, Destro - what values are you pushing here? What particular ideal is forwarded by supporting fraudulent election results?
Of course it's about Soros. You may want to ignore that aspect of the issue, but it's definitely there.
Such is the case in the Ukraine, and such was the case in Serbia back in '00.
That it wasn't the case here in '04 is good for a little confusion on the issue, but don't get your hopes up that you'll be able to string that particular red herring out much longer.
As for whether the interests of an anti-American like Soros can coincide with ours - let's just say I'm a tad skeptical. He does, however, appear to be serving the interests of the EU quite nicely.
Is Soros sitting in the White House? Is he controlling the Congressional delegations we have in the Ukraine? Does he run the OSCE?
Other than taking an absolutist contrarian position to whatever Soros is doing, how is this about Soros for anybody but those obsessed with Soros himself?
Read the article. Yo!

I don't really see you proving any point here.
You of course realize that alongside Soros, those 'various US institutions' Freedom House is sponsored by include the US Information Agency and the US Agency for International Development, right?
No, let's not kid ourselves - the word 'Soros' is like a red flag to a bull to some people: Wave it around and all critical thought goes by the boards.
Ole inquest. Don't mind the banderillas in your hide.

Pinchuk (Kuchma's son in law), Soros and
Olena Franchuk (Kuchma's daughter)
S. is now off to Romania. Elections tomorrow. Don't be late.
