The election's over...they feel they can throw us a bone now and then. Don't fall for it.

David Brooks is the token moderate on the editorial board.

Yeah, and this won't get a lot of buzz on the MSM newscasts.

I'd stay Brooks is more of a libertarian than a moderate, except on matters of gun control. By saying he's a token, that's somewhat belittling. If I had to guess, I don't think you want more Dowd, Herbert, Kristof and Krugman, do you?

Brooks often gets a bad rap around here. Many like to derisively call him a "moderate," etc. But I find him to be an enlightened conservative who is almost always right about the big issues, as evidenced in this column.
I admire the guy immensely and wish I could write half as well.

Belittling Brooks? He/she was ridiculing the NYT for being overwhelmingly liberal.
To: beckett
I got called on it when I called him the remaining token conservative voice at the NYT last column!

Belittling Brooks? He/she was ridiculing the NYT for being overwhelmingly liberal. It strikes me as similar to calling Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas an "Uncle Tom", IMHO.

I assure you.. my arrow was aimed at the liberal left heart of the NYT..not at Brooks.

This is all just fine and dandy. However, I have one nagging question, "Who can afford to buy anything?" When everything is soooo up everything is soooo expensive. When everything is really down then everything is cheap but there is no money to buy anything. So it really is always the same.

In 1990, there were roughly 472 million people in the East Asia and Pacific region living on less than $1 a day. By 2001, there were 271 million living in extreme poverty, and by 2015, at current projections, there will only be 19 million people living under those conditions.

You seem to miss the point -- poor, desperate people are easy to manipulate and are prey to Muslime fundies

It's interesting that you're deeply concerned about everyone but Americans. I guess they don't matter anymore as we solve the world's problems and make ordinary Americans pay for it.

It strikes me as similar to calling Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas an "Uncle Tom", IMHO. Please quote where MEG33 said he had betrayed conservatives/moderates. Thanks in advance.
