NEW YORK -- A man jumped to his death Friday from the 86th-floor observation deck at the Empire State Building, one of Manhattan's busiest tourist destinations, police said.
The apparent suicide forced police to briefly close the landmark on Fifth Avenue to tourists in New York for the holiday weekend.
The man apparently climbed over a security fence that encloses the observation deck before leaping off. He hit a landing on the sixth floor, where he died instantly, police said.
No identification was found on his body.
At least 31 other people have committed suicide at the Empire State Building since it opened in 1931. More than 3.8 million people visit the tourist attraction each year, according to the building's Web site.

How romantic.

Now way the fat slob would be able to scale the fence. And even if he did, there's no way the sixth floor would be able to stop him. The force would cause him to crash through the sixth and fifth down to the fourth floor.

Good grief, semole, how do you know so much about this?
Remember, God is watching YOU, too, at ALL times.
I suppose an autopsy could determine when the heart stopped beating based upon blood flow or lack thereof.
Also, see post # 179.

For anyone else contemplating taking their life, suicide is a sin. Give your troubles over to the Lord, lest they
defeat you. Our Divine Redeemeer told us to repent, to confess our sins to Him, and to change our ways, for behold! The kingdom of God is at hand! Turn not your back to His Word.
Another P.E.S.T victim bites the asphalt.
How does anyone manage to climb the fence at the 86th floor? It has razor sharp blades. I know at UT, there is the clocktower and they closed it down because there were strings of people, likely college students who would jump off the top of the tower in the 1970s. Also, Charles Whitman in 1966 shot from top of the tower, which killed 16 people.

Now that may be true! Hadn't even thought of that. Thanks.
..thanks for your unique viewpoint. ..We must keep King Kong and Superman, Spiderman and All the Superheroes off that floor. :))
Exactly! Those "superheroes" are just interfering with our daily lives for obscure "moral" reasons. Sheesh!
Wow. Never thought of it that way. I guess that would be true. Horrible!
There are no loop holes in the law of gravity.
Instant death on a sixth floor landing, is debatable, since he had only plummeted 80 floors at that time.
News flash, actually....oops make that a news smash.

With the exception of the sixth floor landing, where the entire roof must be replaced before the next rain.
