This could turn out to be as good as it first looked! General Powell has been at the core of our foreign policy problems from the start. Now, with Dr. Rice at State, there will be nothing ambiguous about the president's intentions anywhere on Earth. No, the EU isn't going to like this monolithic front, but that's a good thing.

Pletka is different from Burns as night is to day. Wonder if she's married?

It's time for the State department to be cleaned out also! With the CIA getting a cleaning it's time to put people in that won't just kiss the Arabs A##'s.
These people need to worry..

If the State Department is 'scared' I count that as a very good thing.

Mass resignation is just what the doctor ordered. Having the Arab states (read Islamofascist regimes) respect US is not nearly as important as having them fear US.
Mutual accomodation is not in their lexicon. Perhaps we can teach them about enlightened self-interest.

Department sources said many diplomats are discussing a mass resignation if Pletka is appointed. This article has State Dept sources all over it. They even leaked who they want appointed instead of Ms. Pletka.
Mass resignation? Go ahead.
There is no way these comfortable GS-15's are giving up their cushy jobs.
They are bluffing, and even if they resign, no one will mourn them.

Hopefully they will quit...save Condi from having to clean house. State has been a problem for decades, and she's just the gal to straighten it out.

Wonder if she's married? I don't know, but based on the following sentence, I think I love her.
Department sources said many diplomats are discussing a mass resignation if Pletka is appointed.

Considering how the State Department hires, they could use a good cleaning out from top to bottom. Powell was too nice of a guy and felt he could reform with charm and incremental improvement. Condi might be willing to wield the chainsaw necessary to clean out the partisan, on-world view which dominates in State.

. . . and even if they resign . . . <
They'll probably stay in town and work at places like Brookings, etc.

I don't know if a chainsaw will do it - a stump grinder maybe.

Daniella Pletka is amazing. I have yet to see anyone beat her in a debate. I hope she gets the job.

How I am noticing the influence of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) over the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR)
I know the CFR has WAY more clout, but it is strange to see nonetheless.
