CHULA VISTA – A 7-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries today in a South Bay traffic collision that sent six others to the hospital, authorities said.
The crash happened just before 3 p.m., on East H Street and Tierra Del Rey in Chula Vista, said police Lt. Dan Linney.
Witnesses told police a Suzuki SUV headed west on East H. Street ran a red light and struck a Ford Explorer making a left turn onto eastbound H, Linney said.
A vehicle on Tierra Del Rey was struck when the two SUVs spun out, the lieutenant said.
The boy was airlifted to Children's Hospital, Linney said.
"It appears that the boy may not have been restrained (with a seatbelt)," Linney said.
Six others, including the Suzuki driver, were taken to various trauma centers, including Sharp Memorial, Scripps Mercy hospitals, and UCSD Medical Center, a dispatcher for American Medical Response ambulance service said.
A pregnant passenger in the third vehicle was taken to a hospital as a precaution, the lieutenant said.
Drugs or alcohol were not suspected in the crash, though a case of beer was found in one of the vehicles, Linney said.
Investigators believe the beer was bought at a store for drinking elsewhere, the lieutenant said.
Too bad these SUVs weren't Yugos. Nobody would have been injured /sarcasm
Moral of the story: Don't take on a Ford if you are driving a Suzuki.

Actually the moral is - don't assume that others are going to stop for a red light :-/ It would be great if this were a rare event, but unfortunately too many idiots are on the roads these days.
