The head of the [Ukrainian] Central Elections Committee, Serhiy Kivalov, received a bribe of $21,600,000 (U.S.) for proclaiming Viktor Yanukovych as President of Ukraine.
This amount was transferred to the account of his daughter's companies "Samara" and "Cactus" -- as reported by Member of Parliament Mykola Tomenko at a meeting supporting Viktor Yushchenko.
"Journalists should ask today of Kivalov, is this the cost of Ukraine's freedom," emphasized Tomenko.

Ping
Excuse my ignorance but who is maiden, is that the source?
Another story said there were tape recorded meetings of bribes, corruption, election fixing, etc.
At least the bribe paid off - so far. Soros spent at least $25 million and did not get a Kerry win.
As much as some of you folks here seethe at Soros, whom did he BRIBE? uh-huh, thought so.
The beauty of our system is that it's open and transparent -- we know who gives to whom and how much -- and we even have websites chock full of political funding information.
That a democracy could be bought for the price of a car!! affecting 50 million lives, is a crime of the highest order, and where a moral person would focus their outrage!
So it is the amount of the bribe, not the bribe itself, that makes the difference to you? Hmmmmm. Situational ethics.
Maidan.org.ua is sort of Ukrainian version of FreeRepublic, you could call it sister web site. More info here http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1287278/posts
Another good source in Ukrainian language is internet feed of Radio Lux www.Radiolux.lviv.ua
it is FM station which has calling in program, getting cellphone calls from participants in the mass demonstrations, helping to coordinate the mass protests against Putin/Kuchma/Yanukovych machinery.
