The Department of Defense recently launched the America Supports You program, reportedly in response to the increased desire on the part of American citizens to express their encouragement for service men and women.
Ebberts said "support [for the troops] is absolutely phenomenal. More and more Americans want to know how they can help." And the America Supports You website is already a hit, she said. During one recent morning, Ebberts recounted, "we had at least 12-hundred people go to the website to join the team, telling us about what they are doing for the troops. People want to show their support for the troops."
Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, told that she too sees no evidence of declining public support for the troops. There may not be as many flags visible on cars as there were during earlier stages of the war, but there are still a lot of "flag stickers," Donnelly said.
The American public also expressed its support for the troops when they "voted for the commander-in-chief" on Election Day, she added.
Samantha Quigley of the American Forces Press Service pointed to the number of websites dedicated to pro-military causes. "Dozens of independent organizations are ready and willing to help those who want to help the troops," she said.
The Freedom Calls Foundation, the Veterans of Foreign Wars' "Operation Link," and the United Service Organizations' "Operation Care Package" attempt to gather money and supplies to be sent in the form of care packages to the troops.
Other groups like Operation Dear Abby, AdoptaPlatoon, and AdoptaSoldier allow participating citizens to actually communicate with the service members. And organizations ranging from the National Football League to Wal-Mart, Sears, Home Depot and Starbucks have launched their own efforts this November to help the troops.

I frequently make USO Care packages via the official USO web site. This is a particulary nice site to use if you're outside the US, and they're one of the (if not the) largest organisation that allows the public to support the troops.

Why does supporting our troops and voting for George W. Bush so surprise the MSM.
If you are going to send a package, the list of recommened items are there on the site. (It's getting cold in Iraq.)
In the obituary of a Marine who was just buried just this past week,the parents requested that his unit be sent:
black or dark green heavy socks
baby wipes
AA batteries
intant hot cocoa and cider
glove liners
talc
beef jerky
magazines (sports and Maxim)
sunscreen
chapstick
pens and hard candy to give to the Iraqi children
Packages need to go out by December 6th. But ASAP is best.
Keep in mind that boxes going overseas have some size limits.

May not one single military person feel unloved or unappreciated during this war or afterwards.
It doesn't, it just p!sses them off to no end.
They should never feel that way ever for it isn't true, and if it isn't conveyed to them otherwise Dubya should make it very clear that this isn't the case.
After all Thanksgiving last year was made as comforting as possible to the troops in Iraq.
If I may add-
It is cold and wet right now, summer is no fun but winter can just as bad. The socks we sent were the kind noted for 'wiking' and had Spandex with the cotton. Warm socks are one of the best things to send, as are the polypro glove liners. We sent our packages in shoebox sized 'units' - they seem to get there faster....
Our son is back now and will soon be in Cuba, where at least he will be warm for the holidays...
May the good Lord bless and protect all of our service members, where ever they serve.

After reading the above, I am glad I bought the socks at store that sells items for winter sports. I wanted to send socks to that soldier that I imagined the Kennedys and Kerrys would be wearing as they ski down the slopes of Aspen.
I am thankful your son is back from Iraq. (I hope it's a good thing that he's off to Cuba.) May God bless and keep him and all of our troops forever safe. And may the Good Lord bless and keep you, and all of the people who have beloved family members so far away, as our troops so bravely and honorably defend freedom and liberty.
