Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld has entered the fray over the Defense Department's relationship with the Boy Scouts of America, endorsing in a letter to the House speaker continued support of Scout troops who meet on military bases. At least three conservative Republican lawmakers have sent letters to Mr. Rumsfeld protesting a Bush administration partial legal settlement of a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union's Illinois chapter. The Justice Department, representing the Pentagon, agreed to warn military commanders not to officially sponsor Scout units. The ACLU contends the government sponsorship violates religious freedoms since the Boy Scouts require members to pledge allegiance to God.

This dispute with the ACLU over the Boy Scouts is a gift from God for the GOP if it has the acumen to take advantage of this issue. One can only hope that the democrats will take the side of the ACLU.

Could there be a more vivid example of the attack on traditional values than having the ACLU attack the Boy Scouts? Even people that don't care about the Boy Scouts, such as myself, see the issue for what it is. It's not about the Boy Scouts so much as it is an assault on those that don't support a total secularistic view of society.

Bump.

This is why I say "Rumsfeld for President!"

The Boy Scouts do so much good for teens, then the ACLU comes slong and wants to drag everyone down to their level of mud. I hope Rumsfeld ignores any directives against the Boy Scouts and this becomes an issue that turns against the ACLU and their left-wing shenanigans.

Hoppy

So why doesn't Bush just issue an executive order saying that the Boy Scouts can keep meeting on military bases? If the ACLU wants to take this to court, let them.

So, shortly we'll get to see how the ACLU fares during GWB's second term. Will the ACLU get to Government to stop spending on the Boy Scouts? A ruling agianst the Boy Scouts might have unintended consequences in that it would rally support for conservative judges, and perhaps even constitutional amendments to limit the power of judges.

The Boy Scouts are just a foot in the door for the ACLU. What they are really after is to shut down the military chapel system and the chaplain corps.

The ACLU really inhales immensely!

This ruling came out of John Ashcroft's Justice Department. I don't think the decision is going to be reversed. Who would reverse it?

The Boy Scouts were getting in the way of the homosexual agenda and that made the ACLU mad. Now it's get even time for them.

No member of the ACLU executive committee has ever been:

1. A memer of the U.S. military

2. A practicing Christian

3. A boy or girl scout

Underminig traditional American values is the name of their game.
